Learn about lustre open day at JCJ Pottery near Eastbourne.
Saturday 6th June 2026
Jonathan and Kerry are holding a day of demonstrations to show what goes into making lustreware. After lunch we shall open a lustre kiln and you will have the chance to wash off the clay paste and to reveal the beautiful designs beneath.
The charge of £75 includes refreshments and lunch at The Red Lion, Stone Cross.

Soup of the day with toasted baguette.
Saute mushrooms, cherry tomatoes and wilted spinach. (Gluten free) V.
BBQ Chicken wings with salad. (Gluten free).
Breaded whitebait with tartare sauce and salad.
Goat’s cheese tart with grape chutney and balsamic glaze.
Nachos with cheese, jalapenos, salsa and sour cream (Gluten free) V.

Programme

10 am – Arrival, coffee and introduction.

10.30-11.00 – A brief overview of reduction fired lustreware.

11am-1 pm – Demonstrations of throwing, turning, spraying and decorating with a brush.

1.00-2.30 – Lunch at The Red Lion, Stonecross.

2.30-4.00 – Opening the lustre kiln and cleaning off the paste.

4.00-5.00 – Assessing the results.

Other Information

Some seating will be provided but if you want bring a folding chair.
